Serayah, Tyler Lepley, and Phylicia Rashad are set to star in Netflix’s upcoming film “R&B,” directed by Alanna Brown. The film is part of a new partnership focused on creating faith-based movies with DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry Studios.
“R&B” offers a modern twist on the classic biblical love story of Ruth and Boaz. Set in Tennessee, it follows a young woman who leaves behind the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widow. In this journey, she discovers true love and the maternal connection she’s been missing.
The script is written by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan, with Franklin and Perry producing alongside executive producers Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, and Bart Lipton. The cast also includes Walnette Santiago, Nijah Brenea, James Lee Thomas, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Jermaine Dupri, and Lecrae Moore.
This film marks the first project from the multi-year partnership between Franklin and Perry with Netflix, which was established in May 2023. Perry’s expanding collaboration with Netflix includes both scripted and unscripted projects, with notable upcoming works like “Six Triple Eight” and “Beauty in Black.”
